Maplewood has been active on social media since 2008. We have built a strong network of Maplewood students attending different colleges and  universities over the years. Each year, many of the graduates together with the upperclassmen still in school would gladly share their wonderful and diverse college experiences with Maplewood's fresh crop of outbound freshman students.

Special Guests Share the Latest on College Admissions at Maplewood Study in the USA Seminars


Jul 11, 2007 - Maplewood has invited special guests in the latest seminar series on Study in the USA to share insights and experiences on their most recent college and application experiences. The special guests, well-received by the audience who came to hear their first-hand stories, have been:

Maplewood Sends Alert on College Board SAT Registration


Jun 4, 2007 - Maplewood students and parents who will be applying to US colleges and universities in 2007 and 2008 were alerted on May 29, 2007 the opening of College Board's SAT registration for 2007-08. Many of our students successfully registered for the standardized tests online and the registration was filled up fast for test centers in Hong Kong for the entire year as soon as after two days. By June 4, students in Hong Kong had to register for test centers in Taiwan, Singapore and hope that College Board may open more test centers in Hong Kong for them to make a test center transfer. Maplewood Recruits Volunteers for Chinglin Tutoring Program 2007


May 25, 2007 - Maplewood announces the Chinglin Tutoring Program, an English peer tutoring program for students in summer 2007, riding onsuccessful experiences since 2005. Volunteer students are being recruited to provide conversational English and reading/writing workshops to fellow students attending Fukien Middle School (North Point), a local junior secondary school in Hong Kong. The program will be run for a 3-week period from July 16 to August 3, 2007. The hours will be 2 to 5 pm Mondays to Fridays inclusive. Learn more about Chinglin 2007.



Maplewood Sponsors Hong Kong Arts Festival 2007


Mar 5, 2007 - Maplewood is a Bronze Award Donor to the Hong Kong Arts Festival Student Ticket Scheme in the 35th Hong Kong Arts Festival which runs from February 28 to March 25, 2007. Through the sponsorship, Maplewood hopes to make more arts programs accessible and affordable to students, and that more students will have an opportunity to develop an appreciation and understanding of the arts from a young age. Read more.

Maplewood Announces Chinglin Tutoring Program 2006


Jun 20, 2006 - Maplewood is again coordinating the Chinglin Tutoring Program, an English peer tutoring program for students in summer 2006, riding on our successful experience in 2005. Volunteer students are being recruited to provide conversational English and reading/writing workshops to fellow students attending Fukien Middle School (North Point), a local junior secondary school in Hong Kong. A planning meeting is scheduled for July 12, 2006 for tutors to meet each other and arrange their schedules. The program will last for five weeks from July 17 to August 18, 2006. Chinglin Program 2006 update.

Nov 19, 2005 - Maplewood continues its outreach program and participates in a Career Day Workshop for upper form students at St Paul's Co-educational College and Maplerwood education consultant Perry Yu speaks to students who aspire to study science and engineering in college and gives a presentation on Your Major in Science and Engineering and Your Career. Read more.



College Education Forums at Wah Yan College, Kowloon and DBS


Oct 22, 2005 - Maplewood consultants George Wong, David Lai, Perry Yu are invited by Wah Yan One Foundation to speak at a forum Preparation for University Education in the US organized in collaboration with Wah Yan College, Hong Kong and Wah Yan College, Kowloon. This follows from the University Day forum at Diosesan Boys School (DBS) a week earlier at which Perry Yu has spoken to an audience of over 60 students and parents on US university education. Maplewood hopes that our outreach program on US university education will help open the students' options in higher education and career choices. Read more.

Oct 21, 2005 - The results of Maplewood's Berliner Philharmoniker Student Essay Contest 2005 are out! The two winning essayists have expressed their original and personalized thoughts on music listening or concert-going and win the two $1,200 student tickets to the first-ever Berliner Philharmoniker concert in Hong Kong on November 13, 2005.Read the winning essays.

Peer Tutors Find That Help Cuts Both Ways

Berliner Philharmoniker in Hong Kong


Sep 13, 2005 - Maplewood announces the Berliner Philharmoniker Student Essay Contest on the first day of ticket sale for the first-ever visit and performance in Hong Kong by the world-acclaimed orchestra in November 2005. To enter the contest, Maplewood students and other students aged under 20 should submit an essay in English of 200 to 400 words on Why I want to win a ticket to the Berliner Philharmoniker concert. The best two essays will win two $1,200 student tickets to the Berliner Philharmoniker concert on November 13, 2005. Essay entries will close on September 30, 2005; results will be announced in October, 2005.Read more.



Peer Support Cover Story


Aug 29, 2005 - "Being taught by someone of the same age was interesting and fun," said Andy Tsui Kwok-cheung, a Hon Wah Middle School student tutored by Maplewood students. "The teacher was nice and we learned better in a relaxed playful environment." Maplewood Sponsors Hong Kong Arts Festival 2005


Feb 17, 2005 - Arts appreciation nurtures creativity and cultural understanding. Exposure to the arts also cultivates a more well-rounded person. While many students have learned to dance, sing, act, or play a musical instrument in Hong Kong, not all have had the chance to attend world-class performances, or develop a habit of attending professional performances regularly. In Hong Kong, extracurricular arts activities have often been geared towards interschool competitions or certification exams. As a Bronze Award Donor, Maplewood sponsors the 33rd Hong Kong Arts Festival Student Ticket Scheme to enable more students to attend performing arts programs and develop appreciation and understanding of the arts from a young age. Read more.
